Hip Joint Overview
Knee Joint Overview
Orthopedic surgery is the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the musculoskeletal systems including the bone, joint and muscle tissue.
Dr. Kapp's practice specializes in disorders of the hip and knee. This includes acute injuries such as sports injuries and fractures, but also degenerative conditions such as ostearthritis. Osteoarthritis (OA) is different than other forms of arthritis such as rheumatoid arthritis, which Dr. Kapp also treats.
Osteoarthritis is degenerative loss of articular cartilage in the joint and often leads to pain and loss of mobility. The exact etiology of osteoarthritis is not completely known. Some factors include genetics, obesity and others have been shown to be contributing factors. The initial treatment of osteoarthritis is conservative and includes exercise, medications, bracing, joint injections and other modalities. When the symptoms of osteoarthritis no longer respond to conservative management and general quality of life is severly impacted, joint replacement becomes an excellent option.
